Accessibility Statement
A good reading experience should be available to as many people as possible.
Commitment to Accessibility
Tattooed & Tweed is built around the idea that living well should not require fitting into someone else’s definition of who belongs. That philosophy extends to the website itself.
We want Tattooed & Tweed to be usable by people with different abilities, needs, devices, and ways of navigating the web. Accessibility is considered across the site’s design, content, navigation, performance, and ongoing maintenance rather than treated as something added afterward.
The goal is simple: readers should be able to explore the publication, read its stories, and use its features with as few unnecessary barriers as possible.
Accessibility Standards
Tattooed & Tweed aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
These guidelines provide an internationally recognized framework for making websites and digital content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, physical, cognitive, and other disabilities.
They guide decisions involving site structure, color and contrast, typography, links, images, navigation, forms, keyboard interaction, touch targets, zoom support, and other parts of the reading experience.
Testing & Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility, not a one-time project.
Tattooed & Tweed has undergone a site-wide accessibility review that included automated testing along with manual examination of templates, navigation, content structure, links, images, interactive elements, responsive layouts, and other components of the site.
That work resulted in improvements including clearer heading structures, accessible landmarks, improved link identification, appropriately sized touch targets, better keyboard focus treatment, user zoom support, accessible image descriptions, and changes to navigation and other interactive elements.
Accessibility will continue to be considered as new articles, features, templates, and technologies are introduced. Something that works correctly today can still be affected by future changes, so testing and maintenance remain part of the publishing process.
Assessment & Conformance
Tattooed & Tweed is evaluated with WCAG 2.2 Level AA as its accessibility target.
During a comprehensive accessibility review in September 2026, the site was tested across desktop and mobile layouts using Google Lighthouse. Following remediation, the pages and templates tested during that review achieved Lighthouse accessibility scores of 100, including the homepage, editorial desk pages, article layouts, and all of the articles published at the time.
The review addressed areas including color contrast, alternative text, heading hierarchy, landmark structure, link accessibility, touch-target sizing, language declaration, responsive behavior, and support for browser zoom.
A perfect automated score does not establish complete WCAG conformance. Automated tools can identify many accessibility problems, but they cannot evaluate every requirement or reproduce every way a person may interact with a website.
For that reason, automated testing is treated as one part of the accessibility process rather than a certification of perfection. Tattooed & Tweed will continue to address barriers identified through testing, routine maintenance, and reader feedback.

Despite careful testing, someone may encounter an accessibility barrier that has not been identified.
